How to Succeed at 6th Form

Learning Journey

EXPECTATIONS

Students are expected to readily adopt the school ethos which focuses on a high quality education in a Christian setting.  This contract between the student and school fosters an atmosphere of respect, understanding and tolerance, allowing students to study in a caring environment and aspire to be life-long learners. All students wear business dress.

As highly valued members of the school community, 6th Formers are encouraged to mentor younger students through subjects and extra-curricular activities.  Community Prefects, Faculty Prefects and Senior Prefects are elected annually and there are a range of opportunities to organise and develop sports, music and charity groups.

Students selected to be prefects are given training and opportunities to assist in the day-to-day running of the school.  6th Form students are encouraged to join the student council which forges a vital link between the 6th Form and the rest of the school community

All students will be expected to fulfil either prefect or mentor roles in the Sixth Form.

SUPPORT

Bishop Justus has a reputation for the outstanding care it provides for all students within the school community. An experienced team including a Learning Director, Year Coordinator, Specialist learning mentor, 6th Form tutors and a guidance manager support students and ensure they go through all aspects of  6th Form life successfully.

Tutor groups provide an individualised approach to pastoral and academic care.  Guidance staff are able to work alongside tutors to encourage students to become aspirational learners who are prepared to meet future challenges.

All staff ensure that students receive quality advice and information to help achieve their goals. Links with business and industry are well developed with opportunities for work experience and work shadowing.

The 6th Form contract is at the heart of the support processes that Bishop Justus provides and it is a condition of entry into 6th Form that this document is signed.
