Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

EDI at Bishop Justus

At Bishop Justus Church of England, we believe we must understand that bias exists and put plans in place to ensure that these never impact negatively on the experiences of our students, staff, and the education of the whole child. We will address these through ensuring there is an equality of expectations, quality first teaching and good relationships between teachers and students built on mutual respect of differences. We seek to enable all members of our school community to achieve their full potential in an environment characterised by respect, kindness, equality and opportunity.

We believe that our students’ ongoing success is sustained by our commitment to advance equity and be accountable for advancing inclusion in all its forms. We believe that diversity and inclusion are crucial to maintaining excellence in all our endeavours and we strive to foster a sense of belonging for all members of our community.

To guide the work, we are doing, we have the following aims:

  • To be an anti-racist school and a flagship for diversity and inclusion
  • To continue to improve our inclusion and celebration of all people and ensure that no one feels like an ‘outsider’
  • Ensure staff are supported to have difficult and challenging conversations with students and each other
  • Ensure that everyone who attends and who visits Bishop Justus will become an ally.

Alongside this, the school has an Equality Policy, which guarantees that there will be no discrimination against any individual group regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. School policies and practices are reviewed to ensure that discrimination does not take place. We seek to serve all so that everyone feels a sense of belonging and no one feels like an ‘outsider’.
