St. Justus Day 2019Posted on: 12/11/2019
Saint Justus Day, celebrating 15 years of our school.
Monday 11th November’s ‘Saint Justus Day’ marked 15 years since the opening of Bishop Justus Church of England School and featured two very important award ceremonies celebrating the successes of our students.
Years 10 and 11, together with the 6th Form, assembled in our new school hall in the morning. This was the first time we have had so many students seated in the hall and it was wonderful to see everyone together. Subject awards were presented to students, as were shields for commitment to the school, the summer examination certificates and Mr. Murphy welcomed Mr. Buchanan to present the Lambrini Buchanan Award for Excellence in Languages. Bishop Simon, the Bishop of Tonbridge, gave an inspiring speech about truthful relationships and then blessed our new building work. Mr. Murphy also took the opportunity to call staff onto the stage who have given the school 15 years’ service, to a fantastic round of applause from the students.
In the afternoon ceremony, students in years 9, 8 and 7 were presented with subject and head teacher awards, with inspiring talks from Mr. Murphy, our student leadership team and one of our year 11 students. As part of the celebration of our new school hall and other building works, representatives from the Borough, architects and builders were present and were thanked by Mr. Murphy.
As this special day was also Armistice Day, both ceremonies included an act of remembrance led by Reverend Carol. Our musicians contributed to both ceremonies with marvellous jazz band and solo performances. The day was a wonderful celebration of our school community, staff and most importantly, the numerous successes of our fantastic students.
